🇲🇪 Ulcinj Diaries: Sun, Sea & Old Town

After Berlin, my summer took me somewhere completely different: Ulcinj, Montenegro. 🌊☀️

If Berlin felt like a city adventure, Ulcinj felt like the definition of summer. Blue water, warm weather, beach days, little streets, good food, and that feeling of not wanting the day to end.

🌊 Beach Days

A big part of our time in Ulcinj was, of course, the sea. 🤍

There is something about spending a summer day near the Adriatic that makes everything feel slower. Swimming, sitting by the water, taking pictures, walking around, and just enjoying the sunshine became some of my favorite moments from the trip. And one thing that I liked most, is that it had the best night life. The music was definitely my fav summer thing.

And obviously, I had to take approximately a million pictures. 📸

🏰 Exploring Ulcinj Old Town

But Ulcinj wasn't just beaches.

We also visited Ulcinj Old Town, which is built on rocks overlooking the sea. Walking through the old stone streets and around the historic walls felt like stepping into a completely different part of the city.

The Old Town has a really fascinating history. It was once known as a pirate base, and its walls have seen centuries of different cultures and civilizations.

One of my favorite things was seeing how the history and the seaside atmosphere exist right next to each other. You can literally walk through ancient-looking stone streets and then look out and see the Adriatic Sea. 🌊

🇦🇱 A Little Piece of History

Something I found especially interesting about Ulcinj is its strong Albanian cultural identity.

Ulcinj has deep historical connections to Albanian communities, and Albanian is still widely spoken in the city today. Its history is much older and more complicated than belonging to just one modern country or culture, with Illyrian roots and many different influences over the centuries.

As someone who connects with Albanian culture, seeing that side of Ulcinj made the visit feel even more meaningful. 🤍🇦🇱

🍋 Little Summer Moments

Some of my favorite memories weren't even big events.

They were the little things: walking around after being at the beach, eating something good, seeing the sunset, taking random pictures, listening to music, and just enjoying being somewhere warm and beautiful.

That's what I love about summer trips. You don't always realize you're making memories until you're already home.

📸 My Ulcinj Photo Diary

So, here's my little collection of memories from Ulcinj. 🌊

A little bit of sea, a little bit of history, a lot of sunshine, and one very memorable summer.

💭 Would I Go Back?

Absolutely.

Ulcinj gave me a completely different feeling from Berlin, and I loved having both experiences during the same summer.

Berlin was city lights, architecture and exploring.

Ulcinj was sun, sea, beaches and summer nights.

And honestly? I wouldn't want to choose between them. 🤍
